I was trying to think of something to write a well produced article about today but damn my brain is feeling fried and doing any proper research is completely out of the question. I’m not sure if it’s just me but the Christmas Season always seems to bring about this weird energy of frantic productivity and stress. Whether it’s because everyone needs to get lots done before they take a week off for Christmas or because we’re spending most of our free time at stores spending money like crazy, I’m not really sure. I imagine it’s a combination of the two, it’s like everyone has to work double time, work all day shop all night. And yes, I consider shopping work… unless it’s for tech gadgets.
The holiday season is upon us yet again and in full swing. Like I said in a recent Twitter post, I may not be religious what so ever but damn I would be lying if I didn’t say I enjoy all this Christmas shit. From seeing the bright and colorful transformation of city streets and malls to the eggnog, the sometimes awful music, going to see family, and eating far to much food, Christmas time is pretty freaking great. It’s high point for me thus far was DJing a corporate Christmas party where I was moderating a massive game of name that tune last weekend and the companies CEO insisted I call his team by their proper name, “Buster Hymen”. It was clearly a classy affair.
One of the other great things about Christmas is the movies! Now I’m not talking about “It’s a Wonderful Life”, no no, there is no better way to celebrate holiday cheer than by watching John McClane kick some ass while tossing out one liners and arguing with city police. That’s right, Die Hard 1, and Die Hard 2, such great Christmas films. A Christmas Story is also a yearly staple of mine, I have watched it every year since Grade 7 when my teacher brought it in to show the class. It was a bad day for the tongues of all of us that day. Some other honorable mentions include National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Gremlins, Home Alone, and Scrooged. If you haven’t seen any of those I highly recommend you do it!
The last thing about Christmas I really enjoy, and it wasn’t until recently that I started watching, are the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships! Holy hot damn that is some good hockey. It’s pretty much the last time you’ll see a group of this many players at this caliber not playing for money and playing with people from there own country. It has that feel of watching the Olympics and man are those players amazing. When you watch, you know that those are the future NHLers and it’s the best of the best from across the globe. It’s also really cool to watch year after year and see the players getting older, and better. Watching the Juniors has sort of become a mini family tradition… and to top it off the Juniors are going to be in Edmonton this year(even though I won’t be)!
So yah, those are some of the things I really enjoy about Xmas… and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. 🙂
What’s your favorite thing about the Holiday Season? The snow? The people? Would love to hear about it!
MERRY XMAS!
